Ok, I just couldn't take it anymore. I don't do a great deal of driving on the Blvd, except to go to/from work and run errands. On Saturday, on my way home from the office, I decided to do what I had been wanting to do for awhile - pick up the debris that detracted from the beauty of our Boulevard.
What I thought might take me 10 minutes stretched into 3/4 of an hour! I had 1 grocery store plastic bag on me, which should be enough, right? WRONG! Although I didn't weigh it, I am quite sure it was at least 5 lbs. of garbage, but it could have been more!
THE WORST PART: 30% - 40% of the refuse collected was some sort of container for alcoholic beverages...beer cans, mini liquor bottles, beer bottles, etc.
I hope that the percentage of beverage containers does not correlate to the same percentage of drivers who are consuming those beverages while driving our Blvd...something to think about.
Later.

12/20 Quick Hits
Hey Folks!
Here's a rundown of events (more maintenance-related) that you can look forward to in the new year:
1) SW corner Retention area clean up
- The village has experienced 2 arson incidents in the SW retention area directly across the street from 838 Village Way. Our lawn care technician, Andy, sprayed the weeds with herbicide to expose the debris strewn about. I am going to propose an ALL VOLUNTEER RETENTION AREA CLEAN-UP DAY on Saturday, Jan 13th, 2007 from 8a - 11a. Bring your chainsaw and we'll have a haul-away dumpster to fill! The Village will supply beverages and snacks!
2) 2nd Annual Grove Clean-up
- Our first clean up proved to be a tremendous success, but as always, there's more to do! Join us with your ladders, chainsaws, polesaws, and gloves as we spruce up the Grove and restore her to her former self! Plan on Early Feb, maybe Saturday, Feb 3rd, 2007 from 8a - 11a.
That's all for now

Your Participation is WELCOME!
Neighbors,
As we begin the new year, The Board wants to ensure we put "our BEST FOOT forward", so to speak. One way you can assist the Board is by leting us know when you see something in our common areas that might need the attention of the Maintenance Department.
Here's an example:
I frequently walk my dog around the park and notice that the blacktop on the pathway is beginning to chip in some areas. While it's far from an emergency, it is something that should receive attention sometime within the next year, before it get worse and the cracking/chipping expands. So I just went to our Westlake Village website and downloaded the .PDF form for a Maintenance WORK ORDER at:
http://westlakevillagehoa.com/modules.php?name=Documents&doc=Doc9.pdf
Simply fill out the required areas and fax it to Alice in the Village office at 727.784.3054 (or you can scan it and email it to WestlakeVillage@Verizon.net). From there, it will be assign a Work Order Number and go directly to Don Jones, our Maintenance Chairman, so he can assign the work order a priority level.
With my request, it will probably be on the lower part of the priority list, but that's ok - the work order is in the system and will be addressed at the appropriate time.
So if you see an area that needs attention, please let us know. Whether it's a broken sprinkler head, a tree that needs trimming, a sign that needs to be replaced, we are here to serve you and keep our neighborhood in the pristine condition that caused us to purchase a home in Westlake in the first place!
Respectfully,
Rich C.

Tuesday 12/5...From a Concerned Neighbor...
I received this via email today...please be aware.
"We reside on Hillside Drive and we wanted to bring to your attention the following. Last week we had a guy knock on our door about 7:00 p.m. selling "movie tickets". My husband, answered the door and quickly advised him that this neighborhood has posted "No Solicitation" signs and that we were reporting him to the police. We in turn called the Sheriff's office. Again tonight (12/4) at 7:15 p.m. a guy knocked on the door--again a solicitor--and we once again advised him that we have no solicitation and that we were calling the police. We know of one neighbor who bought the movie tickets. Needless to say I think we need to advise the neighborhood of these guys coming around because it is obvious they may just not be looking to sell "movie tickets". This is the time of year when people are very vulnerable to break ins and robberies. Maybe you have a way to strongly suggest to the people in Westlake to be on alert and to not encourage these people in our neighborhood and report them immediately. We have a great neighborhood--we sure want to keep it safe not only at this time of year, but also the rest of the year. I appreciate your attention to this matter."

12/4 Update
Good Day!
Just a couple of things...
Just a couple of things...
- The Holiday party was a HUGE success! We had about 40-50 neighbors attend, and each enjoyed great music and fine food. Thanks to Dawn Schnauder and others for putting on a great neighborhood get-together!
- The retention pond in SW corner of the Village on Village Way has been sprayed with herbicide in the first step of our plan to repair that area and prevent further arson. When the weeds are knocked down, the debris will be removed and the fence repairs will commence.
- The grapefruit are ready to be picked! Here's a unique idea...buy some mesh citrus bags and fill them with grapefruit - makes a great gift!
That's all for now. Enjoy the cool weather and have a great week!

Hello Neighbors!
Welcome to one of the Internet's newest mediums for instant communication - a blog. As you may know, the word "blog" is short for "web log", which is also synonym for "online diary". Now don't worry - this blog will not be a collection of my personal dreams and aspirations. The main purpose of this blog will be to update the entire neighborhood on the latest happenings in Westlake Village, solicit resident feedback, and address concerns and issues as they present themselves. I plan on updating the "President's Corner" blog as often as once a week, but it may vary depending on what's happening in our neighborhood.
For instance, let all of your friends and neighbors know about the "Holiday Party" on December 1st at the WLV Clubhouse. Here's the info:
"HERE IS A MESSAGE FROM OUR ACTIVITIES CHAIRPERSON:

I also request resident feedback on:
- How you think the Board is doing
- Whether we are representing the needs of the community efficiently
- Ideas on what the Board could improve on
Westlake Village is exceedingly blessed with a "mixing bowl" of expert, professional experience in all facets of industry - our goal is to blend all of our experience and knowledge and put it to work for the good of our community.
2007 will be both challenging and interesting. As we continue our schedule of capital improvements throughout the neighborhood, please know that these projects are NOT free - coupled with ever-rising costs for utilities, contractors, and other intangibles such as insurance, we have seen our year end finances impacted. So send me an email or call any of the Board members if you have a question, comment, or idea. We are here to serve!
Warmest Reagrds,
Rich Cornelius
